Upper West Side Melbourne
Upper West Side is a masterplanned mixed use development fronting Lonsdale, Spencer and Little Bourke Streets and occupies almost half a city block at the western end of Melbourne’s CBD. It is the largest inner city rejuvenation project under construction in Melbourne.
At ground level, a truly Melbourne street language will be achieved with a stimulating combination of streets, lanes and arcades. The pedestrian interface and movements have been fastidiously considered to ensure that these retail outlets and thoroughfares are completely integrated into the existing urban tapestry. Above the street, 4 apartment towers of 30 to 50 storeys have rich and dynamic facades that express clear individual identities while maintaining a collective coherence.
The towers address all of the streets with a mix of studio to 2 bedroom apartments. They have predominantly recessed terraces, however to articulate the façades and give variety and a dynamic quality, some extend further out. Through exhaustive design testing and modelling, and a consolidation of services and apartment types, this unique texture and highly desirable result has been delivered while achieving cost targets.
Car parking has been contained to the inside of the podium and to two basement levels. This further allows all city façades to be active and adds great value to the result. The podium has the largest rooftop green space in the city and includes over 4,000m² of high quality landscaped space.
Cottee Parker Architects will achieve a minimum 4 Star Green Star rating for this development.
