Emporium

Built in 2004, as one of Brisbane’s first inner city urban renewal projects Emporium is sited on the southern part of the former Light Street Bus Depot. It was seen as a benchmark site of the Brisbane Urban Renewal task force, and was a catalyst for reinvigoration of this area as an entertainment precinct.

Cottee Parker Architects’ master planning concept was modeled on the idea of a village green.

Pathways connect intimate outdoor spaces, open terraces and shared plazas. A variety of architecture and construction materials create a community streetscape with internal character distinctions. and the measured mix of retail, residential, commercial and hotel uses create a cohesive destination precinct.

The on grade vehicular loop provides legible circulation to the site and the arrangement of soft and hard landscaping allows pedestrians and vehicles to safely move with less defined parking and pavement boundaries.

The Emporium project was the 2005 UDIA Urban Renewal Award winner.
